The Diplomatic Relations between State of Qatar and Federal democratic Republic of Ethiopia began in 1995, after signing an agreement on establishing Diplomatic Relation between State of Qatar and the then Transitional Government of Ethiopia.

After the inauguration of Qatar Embassy in Addis Ababa in 2012, the political and diplomatic relation of both countries have witnesse visible progresses, especially after the historic visit of H.H
Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifah Al-Thani in April 2013, furthermore by the bilateral visits in 2017 by both H.H Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani visited Addis Ababa and the former Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E Hailemariam Desalegn visited Qatar. H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the Current Prime Minister of Ethiopia, has also visited Doha April 2019.

The Qatari Ethiopian Technical Committee holds periodic meetings to exchange views on common opportunities for cooperation in the sector of Agriculture, culture, tourism, mining and power.
